Young carers in Midlothian are to be given extra support.
The council recently outlined its three-year carers’ strategy and action plan, which aims to strengthen support for local carers.
The new policy document, which reflects national changes, will outline the backing to be given to the 14,000 carers in Midlothian.
Eibhlin McHugh, acting director of community and wellbeing, said that Midlothian carers provided £171 million worth of care in local communities.
She said many carers were living in areas of deprivation with “very, very little” access to financial resources or were young carers, many of whom were still at school.
