Ready to paint the town red after her success in a national art competition is Penicuik High School pupil Erin Scratcherd.
The S2 student was awards second place in the junior (S1 and S2) category of the RSA Schools Art Awards, Scotland’s most prestigious competition for school pupils.
Organised by the Friends of the RSA, the annaul Art Award is open to all secondary schools in Scotland and this year attracted entries from the length of the country. There is no particular theme but emphasis is placed on skills of observation and interpretation.
Prizes are awarded for work which displays energy, creativity and originality.
Erin’s award-winning piece was a portrait of her granddad. It was created in pen as part of a homework task where she was asked to draw a portrait of a member of her family.
