A Bonnyrigg hotel owner has landed in court following complaints about the noise made by his amorous peacocks.
Lodged at Edinburgh Justice of the Peace Court, a petition – signed by 26 neighbours of The Retreat Castle Hotel in Cockpen Road – sought an order to silence the birds.
Percey, Max, Jam and Nacho were part of a long line of peacocks who had roamed the grounds of the hotel for more than 100 years. But they were slapped with the bird equivalent of an anti-social behaviour order after neighbour Ernest Shields (51) applied for an enforcement order.
Problems for the birds first arose when the peahen flew away last year, leaving the peacocks mating calls to become increasingly desperate.
