Festive fair at Newbattle Abbey

Newbattle Abbey College is preparing to kick start the holiday season with its annual ‘Christmas at Newbattle’ fair later this month.

The college is inviting families and local residents to join students and staff for the event on Saturday, November 17.

A variety of stallholders will be attending to showcase their Christmas crafts, while festive treats will be on sale in the Edwin Muir Room and Crypt area of the college building.

There will be festive music, song and poetry readings in the Drawing Room and Chapel, with the college’s very own ‘Rough and Ready Choir’ leading the carols.

The choir, made up of 30 staff, students and friends and local residents, will be performing a repertoire of Christmas songs, old and new, from around the world.

For those looking to enjoy the outdoors, Forestry Commission Scotland will be leading winter woodland walks and a craft workshop on how to make Christmas tree decorations from foraged natural materials.

Visitors will also be given the chance to purchase logs and kindling as well as bird feeders and boxes produced by the current Rural Skills students. There’s even word that a very special guest is set to pop in from the North Pole!

The event costs £2 for adults and is free for children. Free parking facilities are also available.
