Guided by manager Jock Landells, Arniston notched a superb sixth consecutive win in the Premier League, beating Forfar with a very late strike.
This win followed Arniston’s home midweek win over Haddington Athletic when Danny McFadden scored their 60th goal of the season which put Arniston 2-1 up at the time.
Arniston had been 1-0 up in 16 minutes against the Hi Hi through a Darren McTiernan goal but Haddington replied with an equaliser. Then on 40 minutes Arniston missed a penalty leaving it 1-1 at half-time.
McFadden’s’s 68th minute goal restored the advantage, but again the East Lothianers hit back to square it at 2-2, before a Guy Kerr penalty finally sealed the Arniston victory, avenging a 1-0 defeat at Haddington in November !
So last Saturday, following two tough midweek games for Arniston and Forfar – who played Jeanfield – both teams looked tired in a game lacking any high tempo.
Arniston’s great run leaves Landells eyeing fourth place in the table, but they have yet to visit Jeanfield, Lochee United and Konnoway and they are also due to entertain top of the league Dundonald.
Arniston had secured a point from Forfar in March in a 2-2 draw, but in this rematch Arniston were four regulars short including goalkeeper Dale Cornet, with reserve keeper Andy Ritchie in goals for the day.
During goalless first half, Ritchie kept a clean sheet as both teams failed to find the net with half chances.
The second half brought a similar pattern of play and it wasn’t until the closing seconds of the match that Lumbert Kateleza popped home the only goal of the game to secure Arniston’s 12th league win of the season.
