Scottish guitar virtuoso Simon Thacker’s Rimata will be taking you on a global musical journey when the group performs in Penicuik.
The musicians will be in concert in Penicuik Community Arts Centre, West Street, on Wednesday, August 5 at 7.30pm.
Simon will be joined by Paul Harrison (piano), Mario Caribe (bass) and Stu Brown (drums/percussion) as they plan exhilarating music combining sounds from every corner of the globe.
The audience will be treated to the unbridled expression of flamenco, the limitless emotions of the ragas of India, pulsating rhythms from Africa, the raw power and spirituality of Native America, the seductive eloquence of Middle Eastern maqamat and impassioned romances of the Judeo-Spanish Sephardim.
Experience brilliantly inventive musicianship, soul-stirring improvisation and dazzling composition in an effortless meeting of musical styles, cultures and traditions.
Rimata were acclaimed with five stars in last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, where they were selected to be part of the prestigious Made in Scotland showcase, representing the country to international promoters and audiences.
This is their final performance before an extensive tour of New Zealand. Rimata’s debut album will be released next year.
Concert tickets are on sale at £12 (£10 for PCAA members) and are available online at www.penicuikarts.org or from the gift shop at 4 West Street, Penicuik.
