The sights and aromas of spring will fill Ladywood Leisure Centre, Penicuik, today (Saturday).
For Penicuik Horticultural Society is to hold its 62nd spring show and homecraft competitions.
The annual gardening competition will feature the popular local school bulb competition. Schools are also being invited to design a garden in one of this year’s catergories.
The youth theme continues with Girl Guides competing for the Marwick Shield with a display entitled “It’s Easter”, while local Brownies will be vying for the top prize with a shoebox display of a dolly’s tea party. Rainbows will be asked to create a tiara.
A healthy number of entries are expecting in the bulb section, with categories for hyacinths, tulips, daffodils and miniature bulbs including iris and crocus. There will be a category for cut flowers and pot plants.
The homecraft section includes categories for knitting and crochet, needlecraft, preserves and baking. Local WRI will be asked to create a children’s tea party display.
The show is open to the public between 1pm and 4pm. The presentation of prizes will be made at 4.15pm.
