Folk duo tune up for candlelit kirk concert

Folk music duo Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham are among the acts confirmed for a series of candlelit concerts within one of Edinburgh’s most historic churches.

The A-listed Dalmeny Kirk is to host three autumn concerts, followed by another programme of three spring events next year.

The kirk is the focal point of Dalmeny village and is one of the best-preserved Norman parish churches in Scotland. It was built in the early 12th century and has 17th-century additions, with the tower constructed in 1937.

Each concert begins with a two-course dinner, followed by a short walk to the church for an evening of music and talk.

The Edinburgh Quartet launch the programme on September 18, followed by music professor and performer John Butt on October 30 and Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham on November 27.

The Camerata Group from the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland kick off the spring series on March 25, followed by husband and wife duo Steven and Jean Osborne on April 15 and Mr McFall’s Chamber on May 20.

The programme has been organised by the South Queebsferry-based Dundas Foundation.
