Footballer in court over nightclub assault

FOOTBALLER Darren McGregor has appeared in court accused of assault to severe injury at a city nightclub.

St Mirren defender McGregor, 26, of Edinburgh, is alleged to have carried out the attack on July 3 this year at Base Nightclub in the city’s Cowgate. He made no plea or declaration when he appeared on petition in private at the city’s sheriff court yesterday and his case was continued.

Sheriff Isabella McColl granted McGregor, who was represented in court by defence agent Nigel Bruce, bail on the condition he does not enter the premises where the incident is said to have taken place.

McGregor started his career with Cowdenbeath and went to St Mirren in June last year. He made his SPL debut in August in a 1-1 draw with Dundee United.
