Two events will be held in Dalkeith in the next couple of weeks to raise awareness of and to discuss fracking.
Next Monday, Midlothian Energy Forum presents “Fracking and renewables under scrutiny”, in the County Hotel, Dalkeith at 7pm. Chaired by Colin Beattie MSP, speakers include Professor Andrew Watterson from Stirling University and energy consultant Chris Cook.
On March 3, 7pm, at Dalkeith Miners’ Club the fracking film “Ground Swell Rising” will be shown, with its executive producer Mark Lichty on hand to answer questions.
Faye McKay of Midlothian Energy Forum said: “I just think there are a lot of communities that don’t know much about fracking. There are licences being offered to frack here. So we are very much in the front line. The film documents how fracking has affected communities in Pennsylvania. It’s quite shocking. That could be coming to a field near you soon. When I started looking into it I realised that I don’t think it’s something we need in Scotland.”
