Fresh appeal for missing Raymond Paterson

Police have issued a fresh appeal after fears for the welfare of missing Edinburgh man Raymond Paterson.

The 63-year-old was last seen on Saturday at around 2.30pm in Glasgow Queen Street train station. He left the Edinburgh train and walked towards the Dundas Street exit. He was also seen beforehand on Lothian Buses number 23.

Officers are continuing to carry out extensive enquiries and are appealing to the public for assistance in a bid to trace the man safe and well.

Raymond has strong links to the West Highlands and may have travelled by train to the to the Bridge of Orchy/Glencoe area using the West Coast rail line. Police are also keeping an open mind to the possibility that he has journeyed south to London.

He is described as white, 5ft 8inches tall, slim to medium build with blue eyes, short grey hair and has a Glaswegian accent.

He was last seen wearing dark green khaki hip-length jacket and dark green combat-style khaki trousers. He was also wearing a black baseball-style hat and a long black scarf. He also uses a brown wooden walking stick.

Anyone who can assist officers with their efforts to trace Raymond is asked to contact police immediately.

Inspector Murray Tait said: “Raymond has now been missing for three days and given the recent cold weather we are increasingly concerned for his wellbeing.

“Understandably, his family is very worried and keen to hear that he is safe.

“Our enquiries have shown that Raymond may have travelled to the West Highlands but we are also keeping an open mind as to the possibility that he has travelled by rail to London.

“Anyone who remembers seeing Raymond either in Edinburgh or elsewhere since Friday evening is asked to contact police on 101 or alternatively the charity, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
