Representatives from various community groups in Gorebridge headed west recently to find inspiration in their bid to better the fast-growing town.
Their trip to Scotland’s first craft town – West Kilbride – was to see how community groups there have brought locals together.
Paul Renwick of the Gorebridge Community Development Trust(GCDT), a group that helped co-ordinate the event, said: “It was a really good day out. It was an opportunity for the residents of Gorebridge to visit a community that’s reinvented itself.
“Obviously we are not saying we will do exactly what they did there, but we just wanted to see how people can take ownership of their community.
“It’s quite an exciting time just now for Gorebridge, there is a lot of things happening.
“So we just wanted to learn from the other places going through a similar process.
“What came across in West Kilbride was the enthusiasm and how they overcame adversity to create the craft town, managing to establish a really wonderful thing with very few resources.”
