A TEENAGER has been praised for her cool-headedness after a car ploughed into a wall in Birkenside this week.
Sixteen-year-old Hannah Sawyer-Kerr leapt into action when the smash took place yards from her home in Powdermill Brae just after 8am on Tuesday.
The elderly driver was trapped and Hannah’s mother, Angela, noticed smoke pouring from the car’s engine.
Mrs Sawyer-Kerr told the Advertiser: “Hannah was just preparing to go to school when there was this loud bang. A car had struck a wall quite hard. I rushed outside and told her to phone for an ambulance.”
