Government called upon to dump Right to Buy scheme

Midlothian Council has called on the Scottish Government to end the Right to Buy policy.

The recommendation forms part of the Council’s response to the current Scottish
Government consultation on the future of Right to Buy
legislation.

The Scottish Government is considering changes to the current legislation, with the aim of improving access to social rented housing and protecting that housing from the Right to Buy.

Midlothian Council Housing spokesman Councillor Owen Thompson said: “Our response to this consultation reflects the need for fairness in the
provision and retention of affordable housing stock.
We have over 4700 residents on the waiting list, and
we believe that Right to Buy sales detract from people’s right to access affordable homes.”
