THE refurbishment of a Penicuik church is being carried out on a grand scale. For the congregation at St Mungo’s has just welcomed a new feature – a grand piano.
The instrument, a long-term gift from a parishioner, was given its first airing at services over the festive period.
Minister Rev Geoff Berry told the Advertiser: “It was used in earnest last Sunday. We had some music on the organ and some on the grand piano and it absolutely rocked. I may not know anything about music, but it was great. Some of the modern hymns lend themselves better to the piano than the pipe organ.”
The arrival of the fabulous instrument is just one of many improvements being carried out to the church building.
“It is part of the ongoing revitalisation of St Mungo’s – with our complete interior refurbishment and the new instrument. We have other plans in the pipeline,” explained the minister.
He said the long-term aim was to replace the temporary audio visual system with a permanent AV system and projector.
