An animal rights group has offered a reward of £1,000 for information into how a horse ended up with a metal spike in its shoulder at a Gorebridge farm.

Despite claims from the owners of Gowkshill Livery Yard that this could have been an accident, PETA has put up the money to find out how the “sadistic act” occurred on June 5/6.

PETA’s Ben Williamson said: “It is imperative that any community faced with a sadistic and violent act such as this take measures to find the culprit or culprits and bring them to justice. Animal abusers are a danger to everyone and must be caught.”

The owner of the yard, who did not want to be named, said: “We don’t know if someone did it or the horse was spooked. It could’ve been an accident.”

Call Police Scotland on 101 with information.
