Black Diamond FM this week celebrated the 92nd birthday of one of its DJ s, whom the local station believes is the oldest radio presenter in the UK.
Retired book binder Bill Prentice from Bonnyrigg also produces his Sunday afternoon show
On Monday he celebrated turning 92, with Provost Joe Wallace visiting the radio station’s Newtongrange studios to wish him a happy birthday.
Bill said: “I absolutely love being on the radio.
“The show gives elderly people the chance to hear their kind of music, as modern radio is not for elderly people.
“We love the old 1920s, ’30s, ’40s music, the days of big bands and the crooners.
“That’s what we love, so that’s what we play.
“It’s very rewarding to find people phoning in to say they like the programme. All in all I get a great deal of pleasure from doing the show.
“I would like more people making requests. I play the kind of music I think the listeners like, but I would be a lot happier to play what I know for sure they want.”
Born in Haddington in 1923, Bill explained that he was a late starter in radio and revealed he has no intentions of quitting the show.
