‘High calibre’ of candidates delays director appointment

The city council’s decision on who to appoint to one of its most senior positions has been delayed due to the “high calibre” of candidates.

Councillors were due to be asked to rubber-stamp the appointment of a new £132,000-a-year director of corporate governance at a meeting of the full council last week. But the report was withdrawn and is now not going to be discussed until later next month.

Council chief executive Sue Bruce said: “Due to the high calibre of candidates who have applied for the job the recruitment committee feels that more consideration is required.

“A recommendation will be made to the next meeting of the council on September 22. This is still broadly in line with the recruitment timetable.”

The role combines the previous roles of the director of finance and director of corporate services.
