History festival to tell story of Scotland for just £10,000

It is hoped that the ten-day national history festival – to be known as Scotland’s History Festival – will take place in the Capital in November with a range of themed events expected to attract 30,000 people.

Music festival organiser Ian Harrower and stand-up comedian Susan Morrison are behind the plans and have spent the last 18 months gathering support and are backed by the city council.

The events will take place in cafes, bars, pubs and shopping centres, as well as museums, libraries, galleries and the Scottish Parliament building just before St Andrew’s Day.

The National Museums Scotland, the National Archives of Scotland, Edinburgh World Heritage and Edinburgh, Napier and Heriot-Watt universities have all agreed to take part in the festival, which is being run on a budget of just £10,000.

The event will bring together academics, local history groups, students and tourists.
