Plans to turn two former care homes into controversial Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMO) have been moved forward, subject to measures to mitigate concerns.
The plans to turn former young persons centre Midfield House in Poltonhall and former old people’s home Pentland House in Penicuik into HMOs, providing 58 beds for local homeless people, will now go before planning and general purposes committees.
The council believe that these HMOs are needed to help tackle the “pressure” of homelessness demand in Midlothian.
However, locals in Penicuik have campaigned against the plans for Pentland House, worried about how this could affect their neighbourhood.
