Holyrood gives funds boost to city’s self-help charities

Around £700,000 has been made available for organisations working in a range of fields, from mental health to sensory impairment.

Holyrood said the money will be used to help people live independently in their communities and will also help to provide better access to care and support.

Among the charities to benefit are Alzheimer Scotland, the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and the Stroke Association. Public Health Minister Michael Matheson said: “This funding will enable organisations to work with more people, from different backgrounds and communities, for longer periods of time and in more creative ways.”

Florence Burke, Scottish director of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, said: “We are delighted to have received funding to ensure carers and their families can seize the opportunities presented by self-directed support in improving the support and care they receive.”
