Midlothian South MSP Christine Grahame was out on patrol with Gorebridge Police last Friday night into early Saturday morning.
This was a follow-up visit after Ms Grahame met Community Police Officer PC Keith McQuaid recently to discuss policing in the area.
She said: “As part of keeping in touch as constituency MSP and chair of both justice and the sub-committee on policing now that we have a single police force, I decided the best way to see what the police face was to accompany them on a night shift.
“I spoke to constables and probationers as well as the superintendent, and learned of issues facing them. I sat through the night’s briefing then went out in a patrol car.
“It was a quiet night, probably due to the weather but informative nonetheless and I hope to return for another stint in six months.”
