The Gorebridge Community Hub project has taken a step forward as demolition work begins on the dilapidated Brown Building.

The long-delayed £2.2 million work will soon start on creating the state-of-the-art community facilities for the growing town.

They will replace the Brown Building, which has been deemed “beyond repair” and “unfit for purpose”.

Gorebridge Community Trustchairman Archie Pacey told the recent meeting of Gorebridge Community Council: “Our contractor was to begin work on the community hub on January 6, but at the moment surveying work is being done on the site, while demolition work has begun on the Brown Building. We are delighted that work has begun after a lot of false starts in the past.

“But through a lot of hard work and perseverance we are starting to see our dream become a reality.”
