Increase in Midlothian foster carers

The number of new foster carers in Midlothian has increased seven fold as a result of an ongoing recruitment drive.

In the last financial year ending April 2013, the council welcomed 14 new foster carers into the ‘team’ compared with two in the previous year and three the year before.

Councillor Catherine Johnstone (SNP), cabinet member with responsibility for fostering, said: “This is a fantastic result. Many thanks to everyone who has heeded the call to foster.

“We are really getting the message across that fostering is not just life changing for the children but it is incredibly rewarding for anyone who becomes a foster carer.”
