Interns mark end of stint in museums

AN event to celebrate 20 interns who are completing year-long spells at museums and galleries across Scotland has taken place in the Capital.

Museums Galleries Scotland developed the programme of paid internships with Heritage Lottery Fund’s Skills for the Future funding, to give graduates from a range of backgrounds the opportunity to gain experience.

The programme attracted 3200 applications for just 20 internships and plans are already in place to run the programme again next year.

A total of 11 of the 20 interns have secured further employment or education within institutions that include the Courtauld Gallery and Windsor Castle.

The current programme culminated with a celebratory event in the city’s St Cecilia’s Hall yesterday where the interns were presented with a certificate by the Culture Secretary, Fiona Hyslop.
