Midlothian’s Labour MP has welcomed an almost seven per cent drop in the number of locals claiming Job Seekers Allowance.
The latest figures show that 141 fewer people in Midlothian received JSA in May 2013 than had been doing so in April.
This represents a 6.9 per cent decline in the number of people unemployed. The unemployment rate for Midlothian has fallen from 4.8 per cent to 4.4 per cent.
MP David Hamilton said: “Whilst there are still too many people looking for too few jobs, I welcome the fact that unemployment has fallen, especially as this comes despite the Government’s failure to set the right economic foundations. I hope that we can continue to attract employment to Midlothian.”
