Keepers hope for shark pups

A PAIR of critically-endangered angel sharks have delighted staff at Deep Sea World after they were spotted mating.

The sharks, which are rarer than giant pandas, were once common in UK waters but their numbers have declined so dramatically in the last 50 years that they were declared extinct in the North Sea in 2006.

Last Christmas, the female gave birth to pups at the North Queensferry aquarium in what is believed to have been a world first. Now keepers are hoping the female will become pregnant again.
