Knockout start to centenary

Newtongrange will celebrate the centenary of its gala day with a week of events, starting this Sunday with a knockout contest.

‘It’s a Knockout’ in Newtongrange Park at 1pm will get the centenary celebrations under way for Newtongrange Gala Week – which includes a former kings and queens reception and culminates with the gala day itself on June 6.

Chairman of Newtongrange Gala Committee John Turnbull has been waiting for this week for a long time.

He said: “Obviously this is something we have been working on for the last eight years and we hope to do something special this year.

“We are certainly spending a lot more money than usual. We are excited and can’t wait to get started. Our main concern is the big day itself, but we’ve got plenty of events through the week and a couple of them are new.”
