Large objects thrown from M8 footbridge

MOTORISTS could have been killed after large objects were thrown from a footbridge over the M8 in West Lothian, police said today.

A van’s windscreen was smashed and a car roof damaged in the incidents.

The van was hit as it passed under the B792 Blackburn to Bathgate bridge on Monday at 7.10pm.

It followed an incident on Saturday at 7.50pm in which missiles were thrown at a car.

No one was injured in either incident.

The police are appealing for witnesses and warning drivers to be alert driving under bridges.

Inspector Simon Bradshaw, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: “There is every chance that this mindless vandalism could have had far more serious consequences. By compromising the vision of one driver, the lives of everyone on that road are put in danger.”
