Lasswade-based firm does U-turn on charity fee

Lasswade-based garden giant Dobbies has dropped plans to charge charities for using its premises to collect donations from customers.

The chain, which has an outlet at Melville Nursery in Lasswade, was contacted by our sister paper the Edinburgh Evening News, after complaints by fundraisers about the plans.

The claim was that Dobbies wanted £400 a week – or £200 for weekends – to allow charities to collect from shoppers on their premises.

Dobbies responded that it would no longer “be charging charities for renting promotional space”.
