PLANS for a combined care and community development in Penicuik will be revealed next month.
Midlothian Council is staging an open day in Penicuik Town Hall on Friday, October 12 (noon-4pm), to give details of the extra care homes and community hub being built on the site of the former Eastfield Primary School.
There will be information stalls and guest speakers from the council’s adult and community care and housing teams, as well as contributions from Ageing Well and Telecare provider Tyntech.
A tenant from Trust Housing’s Hawthorn Gardens complex will discuss the positive impact moving into an extra care facility had on his life.
The new facility is planned to open in autumn 2013 and will feature 32 extra care apartments and a community hub, incorporating best practice in architectural design for people with dementia.
The community hub, which includes dining, social, recreational and laundry facilities, will be available to the public, as well as to tenants of the extra care units.
Local community groups and businesses are encouraged to attend to learn more about the potential for involvement in delivering services such as hairdressing, catering and arts groups.
