As a teenager at Dalkeith High, Nettie Smith would try her hand at any sport.
Now in training for this year’s Midlothian Senior Games, it seems that the 89-year-old resident at Thornlea nursing home in Loanhead has lost none of her competitive spirit.
The event is being organised by Vivian Wallace, the council’s Ageing Well co-ordinator. She said: “Last year’s event was a big success. It was fun, friendly and got everyone to ‘move more often’. This year, especially with everyone so geared up for the 2012 Olympics, I think the competitive spirit will be to the fore. May the games begin, as they say.”
