Lisa Beattie (SNP) has rejoined the Cabinet just weeks after standing down as council leader.
The announcement was met with strong objections from the opposition Labour group and demands for “disclosure” of her reasons for stepping down on June 27.
Derek Milligan (Lab) said: “We strongly object to the appointment on the basis that no proper explanation of the reasons for her resignation was given to the council. The Labour group believes that, despite assurances from the SNP group that they had reluctantly accepted her resignation, she had in fact been sacked by her colleagues.
“Press reports of the sacking were appearing a full week before she resigned. On that basis argued, this council can have no confidence in Councillor Beattie having any significant post until full disclosure of the reasons for her dismissal as leader are made public.“
As previously reported in the Advertiser, Councillor Beattie stepped down after just five weeks at the helm.
