Almost 40 firefighters tackled an early morning blaze at a derelict Loanhead villa, which is to be the focal point of a new housing development.
Crews from the Lothians and Fife were called to Ashgrove House, Mayburn Terrace, after the alarm was raised at 12.50am on Monday.
The fire was on the ground and first floors of the C Listed building. The cause is unknown. In total, 39 firefighters from Liberton, Dalkeith, Newcraighall, Sighthill and a Command Support Unit from Dunfermline, attended. They used three main jets and cutting gear to bring the fire under control.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “It was treated as a protracted incident due to the unsafe nature of the building.”
