Midlothian’s oldest gala celebrations get off to a colourful start in Loanhead tomorrow (Friday).
Decorated floats, walking groups in fancy dress and nine bands will take part in the evening’s carnival parade.
The procession kick starts nine days of festivities, which conclude with the gala day and crowning ceremony on Saturday, June 25.
Judging for the individual fancy dress classes will take place at the foot of Kennington Avenue from 6.30pm. This will be followed by the judging of the carnival parade entries in Kennington Avenue. The procession sets off round the town at 7.30pm.
On Saturday, the first of the gala’s sporting competitions takes place with the adult five-a-side football at Burghlee Park. Teams, which can enter on the day, will compete for the R L Scott Tropy.
