Midlothian’s only brewery came out tops in an charity brew-off against one of the Edinburgh giants last week.
Stewart Brewing, the independent brewery based in Loanhead, defeated Williams Brothers in a battle to brew the best beer.
Around 200 people attended the inaugural Battle of the Brewers at the Queen’s Arms, Edinburgh, raising £700 for the Maggie’s Centre at the Western General Hospital.
The challenge was to produce a five per cent summer ale. Customers had the chance to try both beers, which were labelled Beer X and Beer Y and vote for their favourite.
The blind tasting of the beers gave the customers a great topic of conversation. At the end of the evening, Stewart Brewing, based at Bilston Glen Industrial Estate, won with 77 votes to Williams Bros’ 49 votes.
Steve Stewart said: “What a great night! Many thanks to all for supporting and helping to judge the battle. We have two great beers on the bar and raised some cash for a great cause – that can only be good for Scottish craft beer.”
