Work being carried out at a number of Midlothian-based research centres has been ranked as some of the most powerful in the UK.
Agricultural and veterinary research at the SRUC, Scotland’s rural college, and Edinburgh University has been assessed on its quality and the impact it has in society.
The SRUC and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, which includes the Roslin Institute, both at Easter Bush, made a joint submission to the Research Excellence Framework.
Three quarters of the research and related activity submitted by the higher education establishments was judged to be “world leading” (receiving the top REF grading of four star) or “internationally excellent” (three star).
