Midlothian people affected by hardship and economic struggles have been thrown a £300,000 lifeline by the Lottery.
The Big Lottery Fund has awarded grants to Midlothian Council and Fresh Start (Edinburgh) in their efforts to assist people experiencing hardship.
Councillor Owen Thompson, Midlothian’s community planning spokesman, said: “This funding will go towards helping people in the county cope with the adverse impact of the UK government’s welfare reform programme.
“While we would hope they see sense and stop these changes, it doesn’t look like that will happen any time soon and working with our partners, we’ll do our best to help the vulnerable in our communities cope.”
