The Advertiser campaign to get a community complex built in Dalkeith has received the full backing of council leader Owen Thompson.
His support comes after fellow Midlothian politicians David Hamilton MP (Lab) and Colin Beattie MSP (SNP) backed our calls for a focal point that befits the needs and ambitions of the community.
Agreeing that council-owned land at Newmills Road would be “ideal” for such a facility, Councillor Thompson (SNP) said he would be willing to arrange a public meeting in order to kick-start community engagement.
The council leader is adamant that it should be local residents and not politicians who determine the final outcome.
Pointing to Rosewell, where a Development Trust comprising two-thirds of the population of the village has been established to help get a hub built, he said: “We all want the best outcome for Dalkeith, which lacks a central facility, and I will be guided by the community – if the willingness is there, there will be a way to do it.”
