A unique baton, with Midlothian origins, is travelling across Scotland shedding light on the work of one of the country’s greatest scientists .
Designed and built by Mike Stoane Lighting of Loanhead, the light baton was created to mark UNESCO’s International Year of Light which celebrates the work of James Clerk Maxwell.
The baton began its journey of science festivals from a special event held at Penicuik High School last month during British Science Week.
It was carried in by pupil Emma Young and handed over to Midlothian’s Lord Lieutenant Sir Robert Clerk, a relative of James Clerk Maxwell.
