Man charged after cyclist injured in Portobello crash

A 55-year-old female cyclist sustained serious injuries to her neck, back and face in the collision, which happened on Abercorn Terrace, Portobello at around 2:50pm on Monday, 7 May.
Police say she was travelling west and had just reached the junction with St Mary’s Place when she was involved in a collision with a Ford Focus car.

Hide AdShe was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she continues to be treated, however, her condition is not life-threatening.
Road Policing Officers responded to the area and closed the road for just over an hour while they conducted their inquiries.
A 21-year-old man was subsequently charged with careless driving and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Members of the public who saw the collision are still urged to come forward.

Hide AdConstable Debra Cowie from Edinburgh’s Road Policing Unit said: “Although an individual has been charged in connection with this incident, we are still conducting inquiries into the circumstances and would urge any witnesses who were on Abercorn Terrace on Monday afternoon to contact police immediately.
“In addition, anyone with any further information can also get in touch with the Edinburgh Road Policing Unit via 101 and quote incident number 2414 of the 7th May.”
