Man in hospital after being rescued from Haymarket kitchen fire

A man was rescued before being taken to hospital tonight following a kitchen fire in a Haymarket flat.

The fire broke out in a first floor flat in Morrison Crescent shortly before 4:50pm on Thursday evening.

Three fire engines and a height appliance were called to the scene and two high-powered hoses were used to extinguish the flames. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus also entered the property.

A fire service spokeswoman said that one man, aged about 40, was "extricated" from the flat before being left in the care of paramedics.

The spokeswoman said he was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but details of his condition are not yet known.

Video footage shared on social media shows fire engines lined up along the street with several police vans in attendance. Black smoke could be seen billowing out from the property.

Fire crews arrived back from the scene a short time ago.
