Man is taken to hospital after flat fire

A MAN escaped through the window of a flat in Granton after a chip pan fire broke out.

The blaze took hold at a ground-floor property in Lower Granton Road at around 8.45pm yesterday.

The 30-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman escaped before the arrival of fire crews.

Both were suffering from smoke inhalation, with the man taken to hospital for a checkup. The fire was extinguished using a fire blanket and hose reel.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out at a water pumping station at Edinburgh Road, Musselburgh at around 2.30pm yesterday leaving one employee needing medical treatment for smoke inhalation.

In another incident in Burdiehouse Avenue, firefighters extinguished a blaze that broke out at a semi-detached property. There were no casualties as a result of the fire, the cause of which is not yet known.
