Man punched during attempted robbery

A MAN was punched in the face in an attempted robbery in Easter Road.

The 21-year-old victim was walking towards London Road and had just reached the Scotmid when he passed two men and a woman.

One of the men blocked his path and demanded he hand over his wallet before a struggle ensued. The victim was punched to the face and knocked to the ground but was able to get back to his feet and return home where he called police. Nothing was stolen.

The incident happened at around 5.45am on Wednesday.

Police say it is believed both men were under the influence of either alcohol or drugs.

A spokesman said: “This was obviously an incredibly frightening experience for the victim, but despite the assault, he refused to give up his possessions and broke free from the suspects. Anyone who was on Easter Road in the early hours of Wednesday morning and saw this assault take place is asked to contact police immediately. Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the suspects and can assist in identifying them.”

The first suspect is described as male, white, 30-40-years-old, 5ft 8ins tall with a medium build, short blond spiky hair, blue eyes and a sharp pointed nose.

He was wearing a black leather jacket over a hooded top, jeans and spoke with an Edinburgh accent.

The second suspect is described as female, white, 25-years-old, 5ft 6ins tall with a heavy build. She was wearing a black hooded top, jeans and spoke with an Edinburgh accent. The third suspect is described as male, white, extremely thin and wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and jeans.
