Man rescued after being stranded on Cramond Island

A MAN was left with mild hypothermia after becoming stranded on Cramond Island last night.

The walker, from Arran, got stuck on the island after walking across and falling victim to the fast-rising tide.

Rescuers said he had initially tried to wait for the water level to fall, but ended up trapped for four hours - eventually calling the emergency services as temperatures dropped at around 8pm.

The RNLI Queensferry lifeboat crew carried out a rescue operation with the help of the South Queensferry Coastguard.

The man, who was reportedly in Edinburgh while he waited for a hospital operation, was then passed into the care of the ambulance service and taken to hospital.
