Masterchef winner has his eyes on the pies

MASTERCHEF winner Gerry Goldwyre was set to make his debut as a judge at today’s World Scotch Pie Championships.

Mr Goldwyre, who runs the Water Tower Restaurant near Edinburgh, was due to be one of 26 judges from the meat and baking trades to decide on this year’s winner in the 13th annual competition held at Carnegie College in Dunfermline.

He said: “I’m a self-taught cook and I set very high standards for innovative cooking that brims with flavour.

“My food style is eclectic and reflects 25 years of international travel and it will be interesting to taste the products produced by talented Scottish bakers and butchers.”

Mr Goldwyre won the BBC cooking show in 1994 and later established his restaurant.
