A CHANCE meeting at an Ayrshire dance led to romance for a Mayfield couple.
Sixty years later, William and Catherine Farrow are celebrating a long and happy marriage.
Catherine, from Newtongrange, had gone to visit her sister in Cumnock when she bumped into William, an Ayrshire lad living in Ochiltree.
He said: “Well, I saw Catherine and that was it. She was 18 and I was 22. I spent quite a lot of time travelling through to Newtongrange after that.”
Their long-distance courtship lasted four years and they were married in the Church of Christ, Newtongrange, on March 21, 1952.
William said: “And it was the first day of spring.”]
