Mayfield Gala Day takes place this Saturday, nearly a quarter of a century since the event was resurrected.

Since it was revived by the Mayfield and Easthouses Community Association back in 1989, the gala day has attracted up to 6,000 people every year.

Robert Hogg from the community association revealed what to expect on the day.

He said: “For teenagers there are the shows.

“And, obviously, there’s the parade. We have got different things in that, and the schools always do a good job decorating their floats.

“We’ll have clowns, jugglers, everything you’d expect at a gala day.

“It’s just a day to enjoy yourself, it’s just fun.”
