A NEWTONGRANGE girl has created a pictorial history of her village.
Megan Fairnie, a P7 pupil at the local primary school, has designed a storyboard which has been installed in Main Street, outside Newbattle Swimming Pool.
Intended originally as gateway signage, her entry won a competition run through Newtongrange Library.
Former local Midlothian councillor Wilma Chalmers said: “The design was truly representative of Newtongrange and reflected most of our heritage, but it was so intricate that it would have been difficult to see the detail clearly when driving past.
“So, I decided it was best displayed where residents and visitors on foot could really appreciate the design.”
Library manager Jacqueline Elliot said: “We had a great response to the competition and the standard was extremely high. We displayed all the entries and the comments were very positive.
“A number of the comments were specific to Megan’s entry and a consensus emerged that her design was particularly good and it came as no real surprise when it was declared the winner.”
Megan is very proud her storyboard has been placed in such a prominent position.
