Metal theft crackdown in Midlothian

SIXTEEN people have been arrested in a police crackdown on the theft of metal and heavy equipment.

In the past two weeks, officers have carried out high-visibility patrols in areas where plant material is used and stored.

Recent local incidents include the theft of scaffolding and copper wiring from the ASDA construction site in Loanhead and the removal of lead from an historic masonic lodge in Dalkeith.

Operation Adamant was launched following an increase in reports of metal thefts across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Scottish Borders, with police carrying out high-visibility patrols.
